Eight yankee college students travel south towards Daytona Beach for Spring Break, but a detour leads them into the seemingly idyllic Georgian town of Pleasant Valley (population 2001), which is holding a "Guts and Glory Jubilee" in honor of the American Civil War. While they stay in the town, completely isolated from the outside world, they are systematically separated and killed in gory fashion by the town's residents. Two students manage to escape, but upon alerting the authorities they learn that "Pleasant Valley" is nothing but a cemetery - a memorial for 2001 Confederate villagers who were massacred 150 years earlier in the Civil War. A plaque reveals that the town's residents will not rest until the crime has been paid back on the yankees: 2001 must be killed... an eye for an eye.
- Kat: Each of her limbs are tied to a separate horse, who each gallop away at full speed, ripping her body apart. Which was inaccurate because the last horse should have dragged her around rather than pulling her limb off. Then cooked and served to the remaining seven yankees.
- Nelson: Milk maiden gives him a tube with what she told him was moonshine, but really contains acid. As he drinks it, the acid burns through him making a hole in the bed with his guts spilling out while the milk maiden laughs.
- Lea: While under a bell dancing to a tune Granny pulls the rope crushing her beneath.
- Ricky: After witnessing Lea's death he runs but is then caught. While making various taunts at the townspeople, two girls appear behind him with a rod and skewer him through the anus and out of his mouth.
- Cory: While Peaches is about to perform fellatio on him he notices a feeling resemblannt of metal against his skin where Peaches' head is. He asks her if she is putting in her retainer, to which she replies "Something like that". While letting fly with a monstrous growl, Peaches suddenly reveals to Cory an absolutely horrible, scary set of thoroughly demonic teeth and equally terrible eyes. Peaches then savagely bites down into Cory's crotch area, grotesquesly killing him. His fate is unknown until his head is seen on a platter later in the film.
- Malcom: Is caught by the townspeople and crushed in a cotton press, the result in which his eyes pop out while the townspeople collect his blood.
- Anderson Lee and Joey: After viewing the Pleasant Valley graveyard they ride away on a motorcyle. As they ride, they are cut by a barbed wire. Anderson is decapitated and Joey partially. Hucklebilly walks away with their heads to continue the "Guts and Glory Jubilee".
- A 2007 sequel is now in the works. Its Working Title is: 2001 Maniacs: Beverly Hellbillys. Most of the original cast, including Robert Englund, will return for this sequel.
