• January 1 - John V is crowned King of Portugal.
• January 16 - The Treaty (or Act) of Union of the two Kingdoms of Scotland and England is ratified by the Scottish Parliament.
• March 19 - The Act of Union with Scotland is ratified by the English Parliament.
