Winter Olympics medal count

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The total medal count for all Winter Olympic Games from 1924 to 2006 is tabulated below. These counts do not include the totals from winter sports (figure skating and ice hockey) that were contested at Summer Olympic Games in 1908 and 1920.

This table is sorted by the number of gold medals earned by each National Olympic Committee (NOC). The number of silver medals is taken into consideration next, and then the number of bronze medals. If, after the above, NOCs are still tied, equal ranking is given and they are listed alphabetically. This follows the system used by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), IAAF and BBC, but not by NBC and CNN.

This table uses the official IOC country code for each NOC. Except in the case of a simple change of IOC code (e.g. HOL to NED for the Netherlands), medal counts are not combined for related NOCs. For example, German athletes have won over 110 gold medals which are split among four different codes.
