3 Needles is a 2005 dramatic film which was directed by Thom Fitzgerald. The film deals with the lives of three people when they make a deal with the devil in order to survive a global epidemic. Shawn Ashmore stars as a Canadian porn star who conceals that he is HIV positive, with Stockard Channing as his mother who learns the truth. Meanwhile, in China Lucy Liu is a blood buyer who's not taking the best precautions with the blood. In Africa, Olympia Dukakis, Chloe Sevigny, and Sandra Oh are Catholic nuns trying to care for those infected with HIV.

3 Needles debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival, played at countless festivals in London, Stockholm, Karlovy Vary, Seattle, Pusan, before making its commercial release in the USA on December 1st, 2006, World AIDS Day. The film won prizes for Cinematrography and Direction at the Atlantic Film Festival and director Thom Fitzgerald was nominated for a Director's Guild Award for Best Direction of a Feature Film.

3 Needles made its U.S. debut at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City with director Thom Fitzgerald, actors Shawn Ashmore, Olympia Dukakis, Chin Han and Lucy Liu present, and was introduced by Doctor David Ho of the China AIDS Initiative. It has been promoted by the United Nations Global Media AIDS Intitiative.
