List of songs that have won a Grammy Award for Song of the Year and an Academy Award for Best Song
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Grammy Award for Song of the Year is one of the two most prestigious awards in the Grammies, if not in all of the American music industry. It has been awarded since 1959 to the composer (not the performer) of the song in question. It is always the case that one or more recordings are nominated for both Song of the Year and Record of the Year, and one recording may be awarded both awards. Years reflect the year in which the Grammy Awards were handed out, for music released in the previous year.
The Academy Award for Best Song is one of the Oscars given by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Nominations are made by Academy members who are songwriters and composers. The winners are chosen by the Academy membership as a whole.
Although Best Song has been awarded since 1934, Song of the Year has only been awarded since 1959. Therefore, not all songs which have won Best Song would have been eligible to win Song of the Year. Typically, a song that won Best Song would not be eligible for Song of the Year until one or two years later, as the album containing the song is usually released following the movie.
