Addis Abebe

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Addis Abebe (born September 5, 1970) is a former long-distance runner from Ethiopia, best known for winning a bronze medal in the infamous 10,000 metres at the 1992 Summer Olympics.

His name is very similar to Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. Addis is his first name meaning new, and his last [his father's] name, Abebe means "blooming", while "Abeba" (or "Ababa") means "flower", both from the same Semitic root (cf. Abib).
