Advanced Info Service PCL is Thailand's largest GSM mobile phone operator with 23 million customers as of 2007. Founded in March 1990 and acquiring Shinawatra Paging in June 1992, the highly profitable company is controlled by the Shin Corporation, headed by Temasek Holdings, a Singapore government owned agency. Singapore Telecommunications holds a 21.5% stake in the company.

Temasek bought AIS and Shin from the ousted Prime Minister Thaksin in early 2006.
