Adventure Gamers

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Adventure Gamers is a computer game website created in 1998 dedicated to the genre of adventure games. It publishes reviews and previews of adventure games, as well as opinion articles and interviews with game designers.

It has perhaps been somewhat influential in bringing attention back to adventure games, a genre that was once prominent but quickly shrunk in significance during the late 90's. The site's reviews have been quoted on many adventure game box covers,[1][2][3][4][5][6] and it is listed as a trusted reviewer on CNET's Metacritic and Game Rankings.

Game designers have been known to make appearances on the AdventureGamers.com forums, some of whom have become regular posters. These include Martin Ganteföhr (The Moment of Silence designer), Steve Ince (a designer on Broken Sword and Beneath a Steel Sky), David Cage (Fahrenheit designer) and Lee Sheldon (writer for Agatha Christie: And Then There Were None). A number of staff members have been hired by Telltale Games. The site maintains its editorial independence by assigning reviews of Telltale products to other members of the staff.

The site covers both commercially created adventure games and independent freeware adventure games (in its "Underground" section).

A popular feature of Adventure Gamers, amongst gamers and developers, is the "Hype-O-Meter", a top ten list of upcoming adventure games determined by reader polls and the editorial staff.

Prior to May 2002, Adventure Gamers was known as Adventure Gamer (no s). The change of name was necessitated by the loss of the original adventuregamer.com web address.
