Africa U.S.A., California

Africa U.S.A., was an African wildlife tourist attraction created by Ivan Tors. The park was located in Redwood Shores, California. It is mostly remembered because it was used for location shooting of the television series Daktari.
Africa U.S.A. was opened in the 1960s. Location shooting of Daktari started in 1966 and continued till 1969. An episode of Star Trek "Shore Leave" was also shot here. Although not directly related to the Africa U.S.A. park in Boca Raton, Florida, Ivan Tors took the name directly from the park which closed in 1961. The name was not trademarked nationally and had only been used for incorporation in Florida.
In the mid-1970s, the park was failing and it merged with a small oceanarium called Marine World to become Marine World Africa USA. The park then moved in 1986 to Vallejo, California, to eventually become Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.
The land of Africa U.S.A. is now occupied by the world headquarters of Oracle Corporation.
