All Saints is a popular medical drama on Australian television. It airs on Channel Seven and debuted on 24 February 1998. The show also began being aired in the United Kingdom on the BBC in the afternoon on July 16, 2007. The series is set in fictional Sydney suburban hospital All Saints General Western Hospital and stories originally focused on the lives of the nurses of Ward 17, which was also known as the "garbage ward", because it took the overflow of patients. In 2004, after a year of low television ratings, producers drastically overhauled the series, shifting focus from Ward 17 to the Emergency room. A new set was established and many new characters introduced.
The external shots (sweeping views of the skyline and hospital) are filmed at the Concord Repatriation General Hospital. Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital in Sydney has also been used for external filming and for some interior locations such as the operating theatres.
Focusing on the trials and tribulations of the hospital staff and patients, the series has won numerous awards and is constantly praised by critics and viewers alike. The show has been listed on the top ten most-viewed shows each week in The Sydney Morning Herald, averaging approximately 1.4 million viewers.
Judith McGrath plays nurse Yvonne Ryan, nicknamed Von after the character in Von Ryan's Express. McGrath is the show's only remaining original cast member.

In reaction to a ratings drop in 2003 and 2004, the producers decided to shift the focus of the series from Ward 17 to the emergency department (ED). This relocation allowed the producers and writers to explore different and more adventurous storylines and allowed the introduction of additional characters. With the relocation, the show also shifted its focus from the lives of the nurses to including the lives of many doctors as well. This revamp in 2004 proved a success and ratings increased considerably.
In Series 10, ratings again started to drop, with many people complaining about the repetitiveness of the storylines, but in the season 10 finale ratings started to pick up. The producers of All Saints have said that if ratings continue to drop, All Saints may be axed. The decrease in ratings prompted the producers to take action. In 2008, Libby Tanner will be returning as Bronwyn Craig and Paul Tassone will be returning as Nelson Curtis.
