Alright, Still is the debut album by the British Pop, Ska singer Lily Allen, released in the UK on July 17, 2006 by Regal Zonophone Records (see 2006 in British music). The album title is taken from subcultural London slang and is referred to in a lyric in the song "Knock 'Em Out". It was a MySpace featured album, which meant that fans could listen to it before it was released.
The album ended 2006 as the twenty-seventh best selling album in the UK, with sales over 523,000 copies. It has currently sold approximately 900,000 in the UK. This album was #13 on Rolling Stone's list of the Top 50 Albums of 2007.[1]
On the week ending on January 28, 2007, British artists made chart history taking all Top 10 places in the Official UK Albums chart for the first time since the chart was established in 1956, according to British record labels trade association the BPI; the album "Alright, Still" was number-nine that week.[2]
The album was released by Regal Records in the United Kingdom, Toshiba-EMI in Japan, Capitol Records in the United States, and by other imprints of EMI internationally.
The mastering of the album has been criticised, with many people considering it to be distorted[3]. Alright, Still is cited as a classic example of the music industry's loudness war. It is nominated in the 'Best Alternative Music Album' category at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards to be held February 2008.
