Altaf Hussain faces murder charges[citation needed] in Pakistan. It is perhaps ironic that MQM holds many seats in the current government at the same time when their party leader is in exile. Hussain holds British nationality.[citation needed].

Altaf Hussain belives himself as the first in Pakistan who introduced a new trend in the political culture by giving a non-feudal based political philosophy and forming a political party, which is commonly considered as representative of common people of Pakistan http://www.tribuneindia.com/2001/20010517/world.htmBut within his own party there is no democracy. His party is considered to be a one man show as most of the parties in Pakistan. He is considered to be a dictator in his party and any stray attitude results in a lethal outcome. It is widely believed that he is the master mind of the killing of former Governor of Sindh Hakeem Saeed. Ironically he has the ruling government in the province of Sindh. In Pakistan he is regarded as a terrorist[citation needed] and a leader of a party which tried to create disturbances in Pakistan's political system for his own benefit[citation needed] and turned the city of Karachi into a gang haven[citation needed].
