Amami, Kagoshima

Amami (奄美市 Amami-shi?) is a city located on Amami Oshima in Kagoshima, Japan.
The city was formed on March 20, 2006 from the merger of the city of Naze with the town of Kasari and the village of Sumiyo.
As of its formation but with 2003 population statistics, the city has an estimated population of 50,577 and a density of 165 persons per km². The total area is 306.03 km².
