Amelie Chabannes (b. 1974, Paris, France) is a French artist whose paintings and sculptures derive from the unconscious and recall the Surrealist automatic drawing technique. She shows in exhibitions all over the world and lives in New York City.
Chabannes' experiences collaborating with architects designing the French cultural center of Riga, Latvia led her to familiarize herself with one of her initial mediums: the rapidograph and paper.
The art of Chabannes is characterized by delicate lines, complimented by colored graphic elements defined by a white ground. Biomorphic shapes, tangled lines, and topographic elements coupled with historical myths and fantastical references frequently feature.
Chabannes' works often reflect societal fears and dreams. A recent solo exhibition: “The Bestiary of Clothilde” (Luxe Gallery- 2006) highlight these sentiments.
Amelie Chabannes has shown in Paris at the Carrousel du Louvre, La Hune Gallery, Acte 2 Gallery, in Mexico City at the Franz Mayer Museum, and in New York at Luxe Gallery. She attended the major art schools of Paris, the National Superior School of Decorative Arts (E.N.S.A.D) and the Atelier Met de Penninghen (E.S.S.A.G).
Amelie Chabannes was married to American born Marketing Executive Jon Cronin on September 2nd, 2006 in Noisy Sur Ecole, France. She lives in Brooklyn and her name was changed to Amelie Chabannes Cronin.
