Among the Living is the name of the third album by the band Anthrax. The album was released in March of 1987 by Megaforce Worldwide/Island. The band and Eddie Kramer produced the album, which was released as a double album (along with Persistence of Time) in Germany in 2000. The album includes the singles, "I am the Law" and "Indians". Among the Living was certified gold by the RIAA. It is widely regarded as one of their best works and sets itself apart from many of its contemporaries by the lyrical humor of some of the songs. There are, however, also several songs with a serious political message behind them. On Anthrax's re-union tour in 2005 the bulk of their set consisted of material from Among the Living, while on their 2006 tour at solo-dates, for the first time ever, they perform the entire album.

Among the Living features a drawing of Henry Kane (a character from Poltergeist II motion picture). The band stated in interviews that he was the one thing that scared them the most.

  • "Among the Living" is used as a background to the Clerks 2 Teaser
  • "I Am the Law" is about the comic book character Judge Dredd.
  • "Efilnikufesin (N.F.L)" is about the life of John Belushi. Efilnikufesin is "Nise Fukin Life" backward.
  • "A Skeleton In The Closet" is based on the Stephen King novella "Apt Pupil" in the novel "Different Seasons". It has since been made into a movie.
  • "Among the Living" is based on the Stephen King novel "The Stand." "The Walkin Dude" is the main villain in the book, and the beginning verse: "With some help from Captain Tripps, He'll bring \the world down to its knees" is about the virus that destroys most of the population in the novel.
  • In the song "A.D.I./Horror Of It All", A.D.I. stands for "Arabian Douchebag Intro", named because it sounds middle eastern.
  • This album is dedicated to former Metallica bassist Cliff Burton.
