Anamaria is one of the fictional crew members of the Black Pearl lead by the fictional pirate Captain Jack Sparrow. She is played by Zoe Saldana and is first seen in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Her name is a blending of the first names of two historically documented female pirates, Anne Bonny and Mary Read. Like Read and Bonny, Anamaria disguises herself as a man in order to join Captain Jack Sparrow's crew. She is a feisty lass and the only female member of the crew. She does not make a reappearance in the sequel, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and is last seen in the final scene of Curse of the Black Pearl. It is unknown whether she will make another appearance in the series again.
In the first film, Anamaria's first act at meeting Jack (again) is to slap him across the face and accuse him of stealing her boat (which sank at the Port Royale harbor at the beginning of the movie). Jack would defend himself by claiming he was "borrowing without asking" and promises to turn over the Interceptor to her as compensation. Anamaria agrees, although the Interceptor is later sunk during a sea battle with Barbossa. She appears to be the Pearl's second mate. When Jack is not on board the ship, she (along with Gibbs, the implied first mate) assumes command, manning the wheel and shouting orders. At the end of the film, she places a cloak around Jack and offers him the wheel, willingly giving him back his position as rightful captain of The Black Pearl.
