Anarchic Adjustment

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anarchic Adjustment - a fashion clothing company from San Francisco, California, 1988—1996. London's post-punk Anarchic Adjustment moved to sunny California with the arrival of founder Nick Philip to the freestyle bicycle/skate scene of Southern California.

Nick briefly work at Freestylin' magazine where a 14 year old Spike Jonze was an aspiring photographer under the stewardship of Windy Osborne, freestyle bicycle rider R.L. Osborne's sister.

Nick Philip met Alan Brown, designer and owner of Ozone Freestyle Bicycle Company, and the two conspired to introduce the Anarchic Adjustment meme via t-shirts and clothing to the U.S. and beyond.

Alan Brown, though rarely mentioned in many references to "Anarchic", was a major influence in designing, marketing and established many of the themes that guided the company's direction.

Charles Uzzell Edwards (FAX Records) (PURE EVIL) joined Alan and Nick and together developed the "Anarchic" line which was noted for its beautifully bizarre graphics, textures, and outrageously profound designs.

Anarchic Adjustment opened two fashion shops in Japan, one in Tokyo at the extremely fashionable Laforet Plaza http://www.laforet.ne.jp in Harajuku and a second store in the American Village in Osaka inside the American Village Parco Store. Alan Brown, along with Joi Ito were responsible for founding the Anarchic stores in Japan. Charles Uzzell Edwards was assigned the task of designing the Laforet store's interior and given Carte blanche to create an 'Anarchic' environment within the small confines of the typical Japanese fashion boutique. Charles insisted on an in-store DJ and all accompanying equipment; an addition that was absolutely unheard of at the time in Japan and became the centerpiece of Anarchic in Japan.

Hiroshi Fujiwara, DJ, http://www.fragment.jp (Tiny Panks) DJ Towa Tei of Deelite, and Timothy Leary were early adopters of Anarchic Adjustment fashion. Hiroshi featured "Anarchic" in his Fujiwara Adjustment section of Cutie Magazine and Timothy Leary wore "Anarchic" whenever he could.
