Career Highlights

Andrew "Tex" Walker (born May 18, 1986), is an Australian rules footballer.

Andrew Walker is a young, partly aboriginal footballer who plays for Carlton in the Australian Football League. He was taken with Carlton's priority draft pick, the second pick overall, in the 2003 National Draft. He received Stephen Silvagni's guernsey number 1 after its two-year retirement.

He made his debut in Round 5, 2004 in Carlton's big win over West Coast at Optus Oval, and it was considered one of the greatest debuts ever by a young player, amassing 26 disposals, assisting five goals, and flying for what may well have been Mark of the Year had he held on to the ball. Walker earned a Rising Star award nomination and had a decent year in 2004, following the relative success of Carlton that season, although the year was also spent completing his Victorian Certificate of Education at Caulfield Grammar School and was in the same year as St Kilda player, Andrew McQualter.

He continued to improve in 2005. He built up muscle, and improved his decision-making and passing accuracy. Throughout the year, he was assigned mainly to tagging roles, as opposed to the set position roles he received in 2004. He had a number of very successful games as a tagger, and by late 2006 he was taking the most difficult tagging assignments in the team, playing every game in that season. Walker is currently in the band, "Number One Draft Picks' and plays the drum like his father.

Walker's nickame is Tex, a reference to television program Walker, Texas Ranger. 3AW commentator Rex Hunt has also used the nickname 1AW, in reference to his guernsey number and initials.
