Anna Morgan

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anna Morgan (1934-1978) is a fictional character in the 2002 movie The Ring, portrayed by actress Shannon Cochran. She and her husband, Richard, owned and operated the Morgan Ranch on the fictional Moesko Island, Washington, where they were award-winning horse breeders.

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Anna had desperately wanted a child and had conceived quite a number of them with her husband, but all of them ended in miscarriage. They later left their home and mysteriously returned with a daughter named Samara Morgan (later revealed to be adopted). However, it soon became apparent that Samara was not a normal girl, as Anna began to slowly go insane, disturbed by horrifying visions the young girl was supernaturally feeding her. The Morgans forced Samara to live in their barn, away from the house, in hopes that it would stop Anna's visions, and eventually admitted Samara to a psychiatric institution for some time before, later, taking her out. Eventually, Anna murdered Samara at their getaway in Shelter Mountain by suffocating her with a plastic bag, likely at the insistence of her husband, and then dropping the body into a nearby well. However, little did the Morgans know, Samara was still alive and had survived in the well for seven days before finally dying. Shortly thereafter, Anna committed suicide by diving off a cliff, a death which Samara presumably played a part in from beyond the grave.
