The Aphelion is an American New York based classical death metal band formed in 9/9/99 and known for its unique use of classical music theory and baroque style counter-point in combination with death or black metal style distortion, tremolo picking, and blast beats. The precursor to The Aphelion is The Dark Ritual.

Notable press includes a Terrorizer Magazine Compilation w/ Emperor,MyDyingBride, and Borknagar, winner of a listenner's poll in 2001 on Metal Guardians Radio Finland, and their album holding top 10 for 17 weeks on mp3.com.
