Archibald Kennedy, 1st Marquess of Ailsa

Archibald Kennedy, 1st Marquess of Ailsa KT FRS (February 1770–September 8, 1846) was a Scottish peer, the son of Archibald Kennedy, 11th Earl of Cassillis.
He married Margaret Erskine, on 1 June 1793 and they had five children:
- Lady Alicia Jane Kennedy (d. 1887), married Jonathon Peel and had issue.
- Archibald Kennedy, Earl of Cassillis (1794–1832), married Eleanor Allardyce and had issue.
- Lady Anne Kennedy (1798–1877), married Sir David Baird of Newbyth, 2nd Baronet and had issue.
- Lady Margaret Kennedy (1800–1889), married Thomas Radclyffe-Livingstone-Eyre.
- Lord John Kennedy-Erskine (1802–?), married Lady Augusta FitzClarence, an illegitimate daughter of King William IV and had issue.
He succeeded to the titles 14th Lord Kennedy and 12th Earl of Cassillis on 30 December 1794. Cassillis was Representative peer for Scotland as Earl of Cassillis between 1796 and 1806. In 1806, he was created, and sat in the House of Lords as 1st Baron Ailsa. On 18 February 1819, he was admitted a Fellow of the Royal Society.[1] He was created 1st Marquess of Ailsa in 1831 and voted for the Reform Bill in 1832. Lord Ailsa died in 1846 and was succeeded by his grandson, Archibald Kennedy.
