The 9 arrondissements of the Moselle department are:

  1. Arrondissement of Boulay-Moselle, (subprefecture: Boulay-Moselle) with 3 cantons and 96 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 74,756 in 1990, and was 74,628 in 1999, a decrease of 0.17%.
  2. Arrondissement of Château-Salins, (subprefecture: Château-Salins) with 5 cantons and 128 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 28,315 in 1990, and was 28,480 in 1999, an increase of 0.58%.
  3. Arrondissement of Forbach, (subprefecture: Forbach) with 7 cantons and 73 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 180,973 in 1990, and was 176,036 in 1999, a decrease of 2.73%.
  4. Arrondissement of Metz-Campagne, (prefecture of the Moselle department: Metz) with 9 cantons and 142 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 202,545 in 1990, and was 211,863 in 1999, an increase of 4.6%.
