Artix Entertainment is a game company that has developed and released many online games. An independent in-game advertising network, IGA Worldwide, announced in May 2007 that it had signed an agreement with Artix Entertainment, to provide in-game ads for Artix titles. Together the games claim more than 32 million players. Artix's AdventureQuest, DragonFable and Battleon Minigames.com sites reach 8.4 million unique visitors per month collectively, and over 550,000 unique users a day.

Notably, the company is criticised for having only a section of their main games being free, and usually more than half of the games require a $20 upgrade, sometimes leading people to say that the company "milks" their games, and the titles of "Free Online Web RPG" to be misleading. Artix Entertainment has created a game which can be played if you do not have the necessary funds to upgrade. However, many times you will see that the best items in-game often require your game or character to be upgraded. Sometimes a notice will pop up when you click something that is "upgrade only" telling you that you must upgrade the feature. If a player wants to avoid the popups completely, it can be done.
