Ashley National Forest

Ashley National Forest is a national forest located in northeastern Utah and part of Wyoming. The popular Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area is located within the forest. Kings Peak, the highest peak in Utah, lies on the border between Ashley National Forest and Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The forest encompasses 1,384,132 acres (5601 km²), of which 1,287,909 acres (5212 km²) are located in Utah. 276,175 acres (1118 km²) are located in the High Uintas Wilderness.

National Forest System lands are located in three major areas: the northern and southern slopes of the Uinta Mountains, the Wyoming Basin, and the Tavaputs Plateau. Elevations on the Ashley National Forest range from 6,000 feet to over 13,500 feet.

Located on the west flank of Ashley NF is the High Uintas Wilderness Area which comprises the wild core of the massive Uinta Mountains. Here you will find the highest peaks in Utah, countless lakes, and a unique alpine ecosystem, it is one of the country's most outstanding wilderness areas. The High Uintas Wilderness is administered jointly by the Ashley and Wasatch-Cache National Forests.
