Atacama (officially III Región de Atacama) is Chile's third administrative region from north to south. Comprised of three provinces, Chañral, Copiapó and Huasco, its capital is Copiapó. It is border to the north by Antofagasta and to the south by Coquimbo. The Atacama Region is some 800 km north of the capital Santiago.
