Ataxia is a group formed by John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers on guitar; Joe Lally of Fugazi on bass; and Josh Klinghoffer of The Bicycle Thief on drums. Together, they released two albums: Automatic Writing in 2004 and AW II in 2007. In Automatic Writing, Frusciante sang on "Dust", "The Sides", and "Addition"; Klinghoffer sang "Another", and Lally sang "Montreal". The songs all feature a ground-bass line with the guitar overlaying different motives and long developments. Ataxia has performed a total of two shows, both at the Knitting Factory in Los Angeles on February 2 and February 3, 2004.
