Augusto dos Anjos (April 20, 1884November 12, 1914) was a Brazilian poet born in Paraíba. He composed his first verses at the age of seven, but his first published book, Homesickness, came out in 1900, and, in spite of being translated this way the actual title of the book was Eu which, in Portuguese, means "I". These early verses were influenced by Symbolism. He was also influenced by philosophers like Herbert Spencer and Ernst Haeckel in his earlier days.

In his later period he had a more individualized voice. By 1908 he worked as a literature professor. He is currently among the most noted Brazilian poets.

He is said to have had asthma[1] and later died of pneumonia, in Minas Gerais on November 12, 1914. As he often wrote about tuberculosis, some assume he died of that instead. He was also known by including biological technical terms in his poetry.
