BBC North West is the BBC English Region covering Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire, Todmorden, the Ribble Valley in North Yorkshire, the Isle of Man, the north-western portion of Derbyshire and southern Cumbria. Many people who live on the Deeside of Wales and Flintshire watch BBC North West as their preferred option. Some northern villages of Shropshire and Staffordshire cutting into Stoke On Trent, Biddulph and Newcastle Under Lyme receive programming from BBC North West. In the early 1990s the Caldbeck transmitter was transferred to programming from the BBC North East region prompting a name change for all BBC regional broadcasting in the North to BBC North. There is considerable support for this area of North/West and Mid Cumbria (along with Haltwistle in Northumberland) to resume services from Manchester as part of the North West region.
Its television service includes the daily BBC North West Tonight news programme, the weekly regional magazine programme Inside Out and the weekly Politics Show.
The region is the controlling centre for BBC Radio Lancashire, BBC Radio Manchester and BBC Radio Merseyside, and the local editions of the BBC's Where I Live websites.
The regional headquarters and television centre is at New Broadcasting House in Oxford Road, Manchester.
