BBC Radio Gloucestershire
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
BBC Radio Gloucestershire is the BBC Local Radio service for the English county of Gloucestershire, which started on October 3, 1988. It broadcasts from its studios in London Rd, Gloucester on 95 (Stroud), 95.8 (Cirencester), 104.7 (Churchdown Hill, 1 km north of M5 J11a) FM and 1413 (Bourton-on-the-Water, just south of Stow-on-the-Wold, and Berkeley Heath, near the junction of the A38 and B4066, close to Dursley) AM. You can also listen via the internet.
The main transmitter is 104.7FM broadcasting from Churchdown Hill near to jct 11 on the M5. The transmitter is not particularly high, is next to two mobile phone masts, and relatively under-powered. The transmitter also broadcasts Severn Sound on 102.4 FM. The station therefore has several infill transmitters on AM and FM. The Stroud transmitter broadcasts on 95 FM & serves much of the South of the County including Dursley. This transmitter also has Severn Sound on 103FM. The Cirencester transmitter broadcasts on 95.8FM serving the south east of the county.
From 1992, the station was broadcast only on FM, which did not cover the hilly areas such as the Forest of Dean and north Cotswolds which had tuned in on 603MW, so eventually in 1995, after losing all its listeners in these areas, two AM transmitters were switched on to much applause.
