The transmitter, between Beverley and South Cave 500 ft up on the Yorkshire Wolds is quite powerful over the relatively flat surrounding area being heard clearly in most of South Yorkshire as well. The signal reaches right across to the highest point of the M62 near junction 22 with the A672, much of Lincolnshire, and as far south as Nottingham on the M1, near the Trowell service station. It also broadcasts Viking FM on 96.9FM (Radio Humberside's old frequency), Galaxy 105 on 105.8FM and BBC DAB National (since 20th April 2006). The Paull transmitter also has Virgin Radio on 1215MW and TalkSPORT on 1053MW. The DAB signals come from the EMAP Humberside 11B multiplex from three transmitters at Cave Wold (most powerful, three miles south of High Hunsley), Buckton Barn (Bridlington) and Bevan Flats (Grimsby).

In 2005, Grimsby Town Football Club briefly banned interviews with players or club management (but not match reports) by Radio Humberside after the sports editor, David Burns, caused a rift by offending John Fenty, the Grimsby chairman by alluding to his surplus wealth as a 'multi-millionaire', in relation to fans being expected to raise money for the club's outstanding tax bill (Keep The Mariners Afloat appeal).

In the past BBC Radio Humberside have used David Arnold Music for their Jingles and at present (Feb 2007) the station has a custom made package featuring the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra which is produced by Steve England. The package has also been re-sung for BBC Radio Merseyside in Liverpool and the instrumental versions are currently used on BBC Radio Nottingham.
