BBC Radio Newcastle is the BBC Local Radio service English metropolitan county of Tyne and Wear. It broadcasts from its studios (known as the 'Pink Palace') on Barrack Road in Newcastle upon Tyne. The station was formerly part of the BBC Night Network. It is one of the most listened to BBC Local Radio Radio stations abroad.

The Pontop Pike transmitter broadcasts the strongest signal on 95.4FM. This transmitter, one of the first in the country, provides Tyneside with national radio frequencies, terrestrial television, BBC DAB National and Digital One. The 96FM frequency from Chatton covers most of the populated areas of east Northumberland and the transmitter has national radio frequencies and television channels. The other two FM transmitters are much weaker. The Fenham transmitter, for west Newcastle and Gateshead situated close to the studios on Barrack Road, also broadcasts television, national radio, BBC DAB National, Digital One, the MXR North East 12C multiplex, 100-102 Century FM on 96.2, Metro Radio on 103 and Galaxy 105-106 on 105.6. The Newton transmitter also has television channels, national radio, 100-102 Century FM on 96.4, Metro Radio on 103.2, and Galaxy 105-106 on 105.8. The DAB signal comes mainly from Burnhope (near Consett), and also Fenham (lower power) on the EMAP Digital Tyne & Wear 11C multiplex.

On weekdays, the station kicks off at 5am with Ian Robinson. From 6.30am - 10am, there is the award winning Mike Parr breakfast show. From 10am - 1pm there is Gilly Hope, but as of November 12th this slot has a new presenter, Jonathan Miles.

The afternoon show from 1 - 4pm used to be presented by Julia Hankin, but she left the station at the end of September and the slot has been filled by various presenters, including Dave Porter, since. From mid-November the show will be presented by a new voice to Radio Newcastle, Alfie Joey.

The drivetime show from 4 - 6.30pm is presented Monday - Thursday by Jon Harle and Anne Leuchars, and on a Friday by Martin Emmerson.

Early evenings between Monday and Thursday are the domain of James Clark, and Friday evening sees the 'More Than Soul' show.

The late night show (10pm - 1am) is presented by Paddy MacDee. On Saturday night is The Rock Show. On Sunday morning, 9-12, is the Dave Porter Show. This is a mixture of music, studio guests and topical conversation, . Dave also presents the Sunday evening Late Show.

Comprehensive sports commentaries are provided covering Newcastle United Mick Lowes and John Anderson, Sunderland AFC with Nick Barnes and Gary Bennett and exclusive coverage of the Newcastle Falcons provided by Kevin Williams and Ian Smith.
