BBC South East is the BBC English Region producing local television, radio, web and teletext content for Kent and East Sussex. It is easily the smallest of the BBC regions, although covering a population of over 2.5m. It was created in September 2001 by the joining of the Heathfield transmitter (formerly part of the BBC South region), with the Bluebell Hill and Dover transmitters from the former BBC London and South East region. Unlike ITV Meridian, it does not provide a local news service for South Essex (received from a Bluebell Hill overlap), this area being part of the BBC London region instead. Its television service transmitted on BBC One includes the daily South East Today news programme, the weekly regional magazine programme Inside Out and the weekly Politics Show.
The region is the controlling centre for BBC Radio Kent and BBC Southern Counties Radio, as well as producing the local editions of the BBC's Where I Live websites and the regional news pages on Ceefax.
The regional headquarters and television centre is in Tunbridge Wells.
