Baby Puss

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Baby Puss is the name of Fred and Wilma Flintstone's pet saber-toothed tiger in the animated series The Flintstones.

Though featured in early merchandise (toys, books, etc.) and in the series opening and closing credits, the prehistoric "house cat" was rarely seen in the actual episodes. Baby Puss is mostly known for Fred's failed attempts at putting him out at night in the closing credits.

A couple of spotlight moments came in Seasons 3, 4, and 5. In Season 3 it shown him fighting with Dino outside the sleeping Pebble's room. Fred yelled at them to "knock it off". In Season 4 the episode "Ten Little Flintstones" shows Fred as he gives Dino his supper he puts him out for the night and tells the cat to "pick a catfight in someone else's yard tonight", and in Season 5 one of the episodes shows Fred keeping everyone up at night with his snoring. Fred wakes up the cat with it and the cat says "If it doesn't get any better than this I'm goin' to the animal shelter."

In a salute to the old cartoon series, the 1994 live-action movie The Flintstones ends with Fred trying to put the cat out, but is put out himself.

  • Baby Puss makes an uncredited cameo as the evil henchman's cat in The Man Called Flintstone.
  • Baby Puss also plays a key role in the episode "Nothing But The Tooth." The idea is for Dino to chase him while a string on Dino's collar is attached to Barney's tooth. This would have extracted the tooth, but Barney couldn't go through with it, and handed the string to Fred. This caused Fred to be pulled along, and end up crashing into the curb.
  • And in "The X-Ray Story," he runs out of the house when Wilma threatens to feed him Dino's Schlump Dog Food(Dino had a dinopeptic germ).
  • In The Flintstone Kids series Baby Puss is shown to be owned by Wilma, which would technically make him her pet, though the show isn't exactly canon by any means.
