Bachelor of Business

A Bachelor of Business (BBus) is a three or four year business degree offered by many universities around the world, particularly the newer universities from the post-Dawkins era in Australia and New Zealand[citation needed]. It is similar in format and structure to a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Business Science (BBusSci) and Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS).

In Australia, it is awarded by former non-university tertiary institutions which include institutes of technologies, such as RMIT University, UTS, and Swinburne University, and Colleges/Institutes of Advanced Education such as Canberra College of Advanced Education. Some former colleges such as Ballarat College of Advanced Education have renamed it to Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) after achieving university status. However, many universities such as Monash University and the University of Queensland are offering Bachelor of Business degrees as a way to further specialise students study needs. Within Australia, Bachelor of Business degrees are becoming as common as Bachelor of Commerce degrees.

By virtue of its history Bachelor of Business qualification was classed as a college degree, and it was introduced to institutes and colleges to distinguish it from university business degrees such as Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Economics. This was primarily due to the divide that had existed under a binary system of higher education in Australia in the pre-Dawkins era of higher education reforms.
