Banagher (Beannchar in Irish) is a town in the Republic of Ireland, located on the western edge of County Offaly in the midlands of Ireland. The name comes from an Irish word meaning "horn-cast", the same root as Bangor in County Down, Northern Ireland. Banagher was originally built to guard a crossing point on the nearby River Shannonjust south of River Brosna and Shannon converging point. The town is the home of the Banagher Concrete Group, the company who made the blocks and internal rings for the Channel Tunnel.

Famous residents have included Anthony Trollope, the Brontë sisters, artist Niamh Bennett and singer/artist Stephanie Hough Johnny McEvoy. The town has a thriving poetry scene, including the Readings from the Pallet festival in local bars. One product of this was Anthony Sullivan whose self-published first book Under Star and Under Sun has seen local success.
