Bear McCreary

Bear McCreary (born February 17, 1979) is a classically trained composer and musician living in Los Angeles, California. He was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He studied under Elmer Bernstein and has composed original music for over thirty films including Jon Chu's musical short When the Kids are Away.

McCreary is a self-taught accordionist and plays in the avant-jazz band 17 Billion Miles of DNA and also his brother's rock band.[1]

From the beginning of its first full season, McCreary has been the composer for the re-imagined series of Battlestar Galactica. Soundtrack albums from seasons one and two are currently available, and the third season soundtrack is due to be released in August 2007.

McCreary took over from Richard Gibbs, who composed the music for the 3-hour miniseries which served as the pilot for the series.
