Bellevue Hill, New South Wales

Bellevue Hill is an eastern suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is located 5km east of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the Municipality of Woollahra. The postcode is 2023.

Bellevue Hill is an affluent residential area, which is home to many prominent Australians. It is well-known for its established, affluent houses and prestigious schools, including The Scots College and Cranbrook School.

In the early 1800s, Irish migrants referred to the area as Vinegar Hill, after the Battle of Vinegar Hill, an engagement during the Irish Rebellion of 1798 in Ireland. Governor Lachlan Macquarie took great exception to this and decided to name the suburb Bellevue Hill, the belle vue meaning beautiful view.
