Ben Schwartzwalder

Ben Schwartzwalder(died 1993) was a Hall-of-fame football coach at Syracuse University. He played center at West Virginia, despite weighting only 146 pounds, and was also a member of the school's wrestling team. He coached High school football for 6 years in West Virginia, and Ohio, including two state championships. He was also a World War II veteran who earned many awards including Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart.
He started his coaching career at Mulhenberg College where he went 25-5. He coached at Syracuse from 1949 to 1973, compiling a 152-91-3 record, and winning one national championship in 1959. His teams went to seven bowl games, and won four Lambert Trophies. In 1959, he also won the national coach of the year award. In 1967, he was elected president of the National Football Coaches Association. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1982.
