Benjamin Gantz

Aluf Benjamin "Benny" Gantz (b. 1959) is a general in the Israel Defense Forces and currently the Commander of the GOC Army Headquarters.
Born in Israel, Gantz was drafted into the IDF in 1977. He volunteered as a paratrooper in the Paratroopers Brigade, and in 1979 became an officer after completing officer's training school. During his career Gantz has served in a number of different units, eventually becoming commander of the Judea and Samaria Division in 2000, commander of the Northern Corps in 2001, the Israeli Northern Command, and finally reaching his current position in 2005[1].
Gantz has received a number of degrees during his military service. In the IDF he graduated from the Inter-Arm Command and Staff College as well as the National Defense College. He also earned an M.A. in National Resource Management from the US National Defense University. In Israel he studied at Tel Aviv University and the University of Haifa, receiving a B.A. in History and an M.A. in Political Science respectively.
