Biancavilla is a town in the Province of Catania, Sicily. It is situated at 513 meters distance above sea level and between the towns Adrano and S. Maria di Licodia. It is situated about 32 kilometers northwest of Catania. The town was founded on 8th January 1488 by Albanian refugees. Lead by Cesare Masi, they arrived in an area called Callicari and received the "Licentia Populandi" privilege from Santapau and Centelles, the presidents of the Sicily Reign. Therefore, Albanian people established in that area and founded the town. The area was subsequently called Altavilla, and in the 1599 the actual Biancavilla.
