Bodicote

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bodicote is a village and civil parish in the Cherwell district of Oxfordshire, England, on the southern fringe of the Banbury urban area, and lies almost entirely west of the A4260 (Oxford) road. According to the 2001 census Bodicote had a population of 2,065. There is one primary school (Bishop Loveday), a post office, a hairdressers and three pubs The Bakers Arms, The Plough and The Horse and Jockey. The Sor Brook runs near Bodicote and children swing over this waterway on a rope in the summer. A Windmill that lies next to the grove, at the top of Bodicote, is mentioned in the Domesday Book. Jonathan Pryce once lived there.

Over the past few years there have been plans to build a new estate (College Fields) adjacent to Bodicote and Banbury which would essentially merge Bodicote into the Cherwell Heights estate of Banbury. In February 2006 the district council decided to go ahead with the plans despite a 20,000 signature petition against it.

There will be 1,070 houses built in the estate, which will include local shops, a pub, a church, a restaurant, a school and other local services.
