Boldre
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Boldre is a lovely little village and civil parish in the New Forest district of Hampshire. It is situated outside the New Forest National Park borders, near the Lymington River, and is about two miles north of Lymington. According to the 2001 census the parish had a population of 1,931.
Boldre has a church, a pub called the Red Lion, and used to have a school (located on Boldre Lane) and a Post Office. The postbox can still be seen today, and the school is now a wonderful house with an interesting plaque outside.
Unfortunately, 50% of Boldre is now under fifty feet of water. As resident Aaron Holliday explains, "Sorry, no, I do realise how bad this is, I just wasn't intervening as i wasn't paying attention... sorry." He clearly believes that the damage is mainly his own doing, such is his anguish at the flood. Perhaps he was watching a documentary on Tintin when he was running the bath. After all, he also said "I was watching a Tintin documentary upstairs when I looked out the window... 'I have left the taps on', I realised, 'now I will be questioned by the police for what was simply a tragic accident.'"
