Bondi, New South Wales

Bondi is an eastern suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is located 7km east of the Sydney central business district, in the Waverley Council local government area. The post code of Bondi is 2026 and 2026 is commonly written as graffiti on areas of Bondi as a sign of adoration for the suburb.

Bondi is a mostly residential area with a small shopping strip on Bondi Road. Bondi Beach is a neighbouring suburb and beach, Bondi Junction is a neighbouring suburb and commercial centre, North Bondi is a neighbouring suburb.

Bondi is an Aboriginal word meaning water breaking over rocks. It has been spelt a number of different ways over time, Boondi, Bundi, Bundye. The whole Bondi area was part of a 200 acre land grant to road-builder William Roberts in 1809. In 1851, Edward Smith Hall, editor of the Sydney Monitor, purchased the land for 200 pounds.
