The Boston Red Sox 2007 season will begin with the Red Sox trying to rebound after a disappointing 2006 campaign, where they finished third in the American League East behind the New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2002. The Red Sox made a big move in the offseason, signing Japanese pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka, bidding over $50 million [1] to be able to negotiate a contract with him, before signing him to a 6-year, $52 million contract. [2] The Red Sox also spent most of the offseason trying to sign Los Angeles Dodgers' outfielder J.D. Drew. It took seven weeks to complete a deal with the free agent. [3]
