Boyne Island is a town in Queensland, Australia, 25 km south of Gladstone. It is located on the west bank of the Boyne River across from Tannum Sands. At the 2001 census, Boyne Island had a population of 3,521.[1]
Australia's largest aluminium smelter, Boyne Smelters Ltd., is located north of town.[1]
Boyne Island is home to the Boyne Tannum Hookup, which is a large fishing event held on the Queens Birthday long weekend. The event is held at Bray Park, which is on the river near the skatepark. This event is very popular, with more than 3,000 entrants. It has more than $150,000 of prizes and giveaways.
