The Braidwood nuclear power plant is located in Will County in northeastern Illinois. It serves Chicago and northern Illinois with electricity.

This plant has two Westinghouse pressurized water reactors.

Exelon is currently being sued by residents of Will County and by the state attorney. The lawsuit says the Braidwood plant released nuclear waste, tritium into local water. The lawsuit could cost hundreds of millions of dollars.

The recent uprates of Braidwood nuclear generating station make it the largest nuclear plant in the state, generating a total of 2,242 net MW. However the three largest Illinois nuclear power plants are nearly equal in generating capability (LaSalle County Nuclear Generating Station is only 2MW less in capacity than Braidwood and Byron Nuclear Generating Station is only 4MW less in capacity than LaSalle).
