Brett Gurewitz (born May 12, 1962) Los Angeles,CA. Also known as Mr. Brett or Brett Religion, is the guitarist and songwriter for Bad Religion. He is also the owner of the record label Epitaph Records. Brett is from the town of Woodland Hills,CA.(a suburb of L.A.'s San Fernando Valley)

Bad Religion was founded in Woodland Hills,CA. in 1980 with Greg Graffin, Jay Ziskrout and Jay Bentley. All four attended El Camino Real High School. They released their first album in 1981. He has produced albums for his own Bad Religion as well as Epitaph Records labelmates NOFX, Rancid and Pennywise, among others. He was replaced by Brian Baker in 1994 during the Stranger Than Fiction tour and started a new band, Daredevils, but rejoined Bad Religion in 2001 when they soon recorded their 2002 comeback album The Process of Belief.

During 2003, Gurewitz started a new band called Error together with Atticus Ross, Leopold Ross and Greg Puciato, but remained with Bad Religion for two more albums The Empire Strikes First (2004) and New Maps of Hell (2007).

Brett now lives in Hollywood Hills, California, with his wife Gina and two kids, Max and Frida.[citation needed]

The alternative metal band Snot, from their 1997 album Get Some denounces Gurewitz with the track Mr. Brett. An excerpt from the song proclaims:

Mr. Brett, we won't pay that fee to keep you
Livin' in luxury.
Some say genius, some say mistake
But you've become what you used to hate.

Particularly, Snot takes offense to what leader singer, Lynn Strait, sees as an over-commercialization of punk music in the industry, in which Gurewitz is a leading contributor. The song goes on aiming at Girewitz's carefree upbringing which is seen, by some, as a forgotten element in his lyrics.
