From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Brian Liebenberg (born 19 September 1979 in Benoni) is a South Africa-born French rugby union footballer. His usual position is at centre, where he plays for the Top 14 club, Stade Français, as well as the national team. He was a part of Stade Français' championship victory of 2004, as well as the runner-up of the French championship and Heineken Cup in 2005. He was also a part of France's Six Nations victory in 2004, as well as playing for them during the 2003 World Cup.

Liebenberg made his international debut for France in 2003, as a reserve in matches against Romania, and then England, both of which France won. He was promoted to a starting position for the second match against the English, which was lost 45 to 14 at Twickenham. He was then included in France's 2003 World Cup squad, playing in matches against the USA, as well as a reserve against Ireland and the All Blacks.

He was capped for France against Ireland in Paris in the 2004 Six Nations Championship, which France eventually went onto win. The following year he was a part of Stade Français' Top 14 victory in 2004. He was capped twice more that year for France, against Canada in Toronto, and the All Blacks in Paris.

Liebenberg was capped twice during the 2005 Six Nations Championship, against Scotland and England. The following year Stade Français came close to winning the two biggest championships available to a French team, the Top 14 and Heineken Cup trophies. The club was a losing finalist in both competitions.
