Lieutenant Briar Cudgeon is a character from the Artemis Fowl series of books.

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Cudgeon had been planning to backstab Commander Julius Root during the original mission at Fowl manor and replace him, but, after his plan backfired, was "accidentally" shot by Root, using a tranquilizer finger dart invented by Foaly. The dart's sedative reacted with some illegal brain-enhancing drugs he was experimenting with, and the resulting side effects disfigured his once handsome looks. He was demoted to the rank of Private and given a job as a recycler.

Cudgeon began scheming against the LEP and Root, joining forces with Opal Koboi. He persuaded the goblins to start the B'wa Kell goblin rebellion. They almost defeated the LEP, but were stopped by Artemis Fowl II, Butler, Holly, Root, and Foaly. Cudgeon was foiled when Foaly managed to send an audio file to Artemis' mobile phone, revealing how Cudgeon had been planning to betray Koboi. Cudgeon died when, after his planned treachery was revealed, he became entangled in the safety rail of Opal's Koboi HoverboyTM, which Koboi had launched at him in rage, after which he inadvertently entered a plasma servicing hatch through a hatch that Artemis opened. Ironically, this occurred after Cudgeon himself activated the plasma cannons, so the result is that he is "fried by a million radioactive tendrils". His preferred weapon is a customised Softnose Redboy blaster, which he uses in a failed assassination attempt targeting Koboi just before his death.
