"Bright Yellow Gun" is a popular song by the Throwing Muses. It originally appeared on their 1995 album University, from which it was the only single. The song's popularity was ensured when it was played on many college rock stations throughout the year. However, despite this, the song never really took off in mainstream culture.

Many listeners have recalled that the song takes on familiar themes in Kristin Hersh's songs, such as sex.

Bright Yellow Gun signaled a rockier edge to the Muses sound. Ever since Tanya Donelly left the band to form Belly, the bands remaining members, Kristin Hersh and Dave Narcizo, were left to create Red Heaven, their 1992 release on the 4AD label. In their hiatus, the band recruited Bernard Georges as their new bassist. By recruiting him, the band's "rock" songs took a a more driving speed. Hence, Bright Yellow Gun was a return to form according to many critics.
